⚠️ Incidents/Safety:-- So my ex-step uncle Johnny V, posted this on Facebook last week:

I've heard all my life that a 4.5 inch cutting blade on a grinding wheel can come apart! IT'S TRUE! Ask me how I know! That smarts! Got a gash on my stomach heading toward my face if I had not moved when I felt it start to come apart! Fortunately, I only got a cut on my stomach. That was close!!! Live and learn.
And it turns out there may have been a similar incident somewhere in our company the same week, but the incidentee shall remain unnamed...
๐ฅHere are my replies to Johnny's post/questions:
Yes, yes it is. So glad you weren't seriously injured. God is good!
I play a video like the one below about once a year for our (construction) safety meetings. It shows how to test your grinding wheel for fractures/faults by using the "ring" method. Always test the wheel before each use and wear ANSI Z87.1 rated safety glasses when using your grinding wheel, just in case a fracture happens during use. https://youtu.be/QSQiLxDBpu8?si=06gee-ARSQRziEqr
Johnny VerettoGood info. But how do you know if it cracked during use?
Corinna FritzJohnny Veretto Well, first of all, if it's got a guard, don't remove it. If your grinder tool is so old it doesn't have a guard, replace it. There are a lot of other "don'ts" to observe when using a grinder that should keep it from cracking, like don't buy a cheap grinder, don't put pressure on it at a cock-eye'd angle, and I actually can't remember all of the other don'ts....
...Here's a rather offensive video that explains all the don'ts I know, but please disregard the first part where he tells you to remove the guard and do stay away from flammables, wear your safety glasses, gloves, maybe a leather apron...I tell you what, doing this job does nothing for my anxiety!
