Incidents/Safety News/Commentary:
There is a possibility for some pretty cold temperatures and even some snow on the valley floor starting this week. In addition to dressing for the weather, make sure your vehicles are winterized. Looking forward to the argument this video is likely to cause over "spontaneous offroading"🤣. Feel welcome to add any comments or tips you have for winter weather to this thread, just keep it cordial. Please watch: https://youtu.be/na3DdKR8S1s?si=9taQvODyeXYL1ORu
Personally, I think the emergency kit also needs: 3 day supply of any prescribed medications; chains, cables, or snow socks; a much warmer blanket than shown for every occupant and/or space blankets or emergency sleeping bags; several bags of sand or non- clumping cat litter; hand warmers or those chemical heating pain patches; thunder bucket; toilet paper; wind-up radio and flashlight; kitchen sink....
If stranded, run the engine and heater once for about 10 minutes every couple hours to warm up (make sure exhaust pipes are clear first). We used to be told to carry matches, candles and a coffee can for light and warmth if stranded. Turns out there is debate on that, fire potential and carbon monoxide are issues to be aware of. Whether or not or when to get out of your car depends on the situation, use your best judgement, but in general don't try to walk for help, let help come to you.
Only some of our vans are equipped to handle ice and snow; be sure to watch the weather and be alert to the HeatGuy News and Safety text thread.
Is our Accident and Illness plan working? Yes. See: https://secure.lni.wa.gov/verify/Details/workersCompRates.aspx?UBI=602691268&LIC=HEATGL*911MO&VIO=&SAW=false&ACCT=88550302 --Employer’s claim costs are lower than average.
